Because each publication is a unique document, the editors at Ethos CRS take into account purpose and context, the target audience and the delivery mode (print or screen).

Importantly, our editors know how to produce a document on time and within budget. Control over all these factors goes to ensure a flawless, finished document.

Our editors have the latest word-processing and publishing software at their disposal. They also have access to relevant online search engines, dictionaries and a specialist virtual community of editors to complete any task with confidence. Ethos CRS editors will:

  • thoroughly evaluate content and structure
  • undertake editing to the requested level
  • use clear and direct expression
  • be consistent with the Commonwealth Style manual—for authors, editors and printers
  • take into account in-house style guides
  • keep their digital housekeeping up to date—current virus protection, file management, version control measures, archiving, keep all electronic files at least six months after the manuscript has been published.

Proofreading

Proofreading includes checking typeset copy against final approved text, reading for typographical errors, checking presentation, colour and page falls.

Copy editing

Copy editing includes thoroughly checking grammar, spelling, punctuation, syntax, interpretation of data imported from spreadsheets. We will also ensure format, style, cross-checking references, tables and graphics are consistent.

Substantive

We identify problems of clarity and structure, rewrite segments as required, revise, improve presentation, and incorporate changes and suggestions.

Development/structural

We will work with the client to develop the structure of a document, its content and organisation, presentation, and do the research and writing necessary to produce a first rate document.
